"Puppy Training - Training Your Puppy To Accept A Dog Collar!"
Training a new puppy to accept a dog collar is an important first step in training your dog. Many puppies are baffled, frightened and bewildered by this new piece of equipment and will try to remove their new dog collar by pawing and pulling at it. Note that this collar is not a dog training collar and should not be confused as one.
Fit is important when choosing a dog collar for your new puppy. A properly fitted buckle collar, chosen for your puppy’s size, is more likely to be comfortable and accepted. Your dog collar should have an identification tag and license attached so your puppy can be easily returned to you if you become separated.
The best way to introduce the puppy to the dog collar is to simply put the collar on and allow them to squirm, jump, roll and paw at it to their heart’s content. Don’t encourage this behavior by trying to soothe the puppy, but it is just as important not to punish or reprimand the puppy. The best strategy is to simply ignore the puppy and allow them to work through their issues with the collar on their own. Getting the puppy to play, eat and drink while wearing the collar is a great way to distract them from the fact that they are wearing a dog collar to begin with. After a few days, most puppies won’t notice the collar anymore.
